INDOT is responsible for construction and maintenance of federal interstates, U.S. highways, and state roads in Indiana, including adjacent overpasses and ramps on these roadways. INDOT also is responsible for traffic control devices along these roadways, including signs and traffic signals. INDOT has six district offices across the state that handle day-to-day operations such as construction and detours, traffic signal operations, permits, and maintenance operations – such as filling potholes and plowing snow – along with various other responsibilities. The department works closely with other state, federal and local agencies to meet changing and growing travel needs. INDOT is committed to its mission to plan, build and maintain a superior transportation system enhance safety, mobility and economic growth.
